Course overview

Our L1 Multi Skills Construction course allows students to develop a variety of skills including Health and Safety. Students will be taught tool identification, electrical works, hardware and painting and preparation. We also offer an engaging woodwork course where students can build their own models. Our course includes functional skills throughout to ensure the student have relevant industry knowledge.

What will I learn?

You will learn in our workshops with the opportunities to do lots of practical work. The course will cover a range of multi skills including employability skills. You will also learn about essential safety that is demanded by the industry to prepare you for employment.

Modules

There are a range of units which can include:

• Introduction to health and safety
• Fitting locks and latches
• Painting a panel door
• Mixing and using concrete
• Assembling 13amp switch sockets wired in ring main

Assessment

You will be required to complete a range of written assignments. You will also be required to demonstrate some skills whilst being observed by your tutor.

Work experience

You will do at least two weeks of work experience to support your studies, gain experience and potentially develop contacts with future employers. Our team will help you secure a work placement and will provide you with everything required for you to attend your placement.

There are a variety of enrichment opportunities on offer throughout the year, including trips and external visits.

Career and progression

On completion of the course, you can progress to a Level 2 course or apprenticeship.
